Arbitration, a method of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), is an out-of-court procedure for the resolution of disputes. During arbitration, one or more people, the "arbitrators," "arbiters," or "arbitral tribunal," hear evidence and make a binding decision regarding the dispute. In many cases, the arbitrator is selected directly by the parties involved. This allows for the parties to save costs as compared to litigation. Arbitration can be similar to a trial. However, it usually proceeds much more quickly and with less rigor.[1][2][3]
