I've worked for more than twenty years in retail and retail management. I've previously served on the executive committee of the Auglaize County Democratic Party and partnered with the Mercer County Democratic Party. In late 2022 I formed the grassroots organization, Northwest Ohio Trans Advocacy (NOTA), to support full inclusion of trans people in society. I organized the 2023 Lima Pride March and have spoken at Small Town Pride Celina multiple times.
  • It doesn't matter if its a Democratic idea or a Republican idea, as long as it's a good idea.
  • I'm committed to being accessible to constituents from all political affiliations.
  • I'm running to ensure everyone has a seat at the table.
I am fully committed to equality for all Ohio citizens, including the passage of the Ohio Fairness Act. I will fight for an increase in teacher salaries, a repeal of Ohio's irresponsible EdChoice voucher program and the restoration of the autonomy of the Ohio Board of Education. I support alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar, to supplement our energy grid and reduce the cost to consumers. I will work to reform the Ohio tax code, ensuring the wealthiest pay their fair share and tax cuts go to our poor and middle class. I want to work across the aisle to address the elder care crisis and ensure our seniors can receive care in their own homes.
My biggest hero is my grandmother. I cared for her as she struggled with cancer and watched as she never gave up hope, and never let the pain take away her amazing sense of humor. Her memory has been a source of strength and inspiration for me throughout the years.
Accessibility - we have to be available to our constituents and willing to listen to their concerns and ideas. I also think it's important that we be able to see beyond party label. Perhaps we can't see eye-to-eye on a particular issue, but what are the issues that we can find common ground and work for the common good.
A willingness to listen and a fighter spirit. I am a passionate advocate that doesn't give up.
As an 18 year old, newly on my own in Columbus Ohio, I remember watching the September 11th terrorist attacks. My roommates mother called us that morning, telling us to turn on the news, and we were watching as the second plane struck the towers. That evening I went to work at Target, on Polaris Pky. It remains the strangest day of my retail career, with almost no one coming in the store, and all of us gathered around a roll out television, watching the news.
My very first job was working in a small diner that my family managed. I worked as a dishwasher on the weekends and also worked the food truck for auctions and county fairs. I did this during the summers of my teen years.
Like Me: Confessions of a Heartland County Singer by Chely Wright
"This is Me" from The Greatest Showman. I absolutely love the film and I often use that song to encourage myself in anything I'm working on.
I believe the state legislature serves as a check on gubernatorial powers. While we should work hard to never have an adversarial relationship with the governor, our first priority is to the constituents of the district, and ensuring their wellbeing is communicated to all levels of government.
As we see the population of Ohio age, solving the elder care crisis in our state is of paramount importance. With a shortage of direct care professionals, serving the in-home needs of our senior population, we must develop solutions quickly. We also need to address education in our state, as our teachers continue to receive salaries below the national average since 2014. With the drug abuse epidemic in Ohio, community intervention, drug rehabilitation and drug court needs also need to be urgently addressed.
I really think it depends on the individual. Government experience can certainly be useful. However, more important is our responsiveness to the constituents needs, our willingness to listen to the residents of our district and to take their ideas with us, to the Statehouse.
Absolutely. Our goal should be to represent the interests of our constituents, and often those interests and needs will overlap. I believe good working relationships with legislators of all parties can help us achieve those goals.
As a trans woman, Danica Roem of Virginia is an inspiration. I appreciate that she has shown the people that a trans politician can stand for equality while also advocating for the kitchen table issues that matter to all constituents.
Absolutely. I believe we have to be willing to reach across the aisle and reach compromise solutions for the issues that matter to our constituents. We may not get 100% of what we want, but making progress for the people must be our priority, even if it comes incrementally.
My first priority would be to work with legislators across the aisle to introduce a bill that would resolve or help with our elder care crisis, ensuring that seniors of all districts have access (and ease of access) to resources that allow them to receive needed care, without the need of leaving home.
