A Death Penalty Repeal Initiative did not make the November 8, 2016 ballot in Arizona as an initiated state statute.
The measure would have repealed Arizona's death penalty and replaced the sentencing option with life in prison. Inmates on death row, which initiative proponents estimated to be about 125 prisoners in November 2015, would have had their sentences changed to life in prison.[1]

Path to the ballot
Initiative proponents needed to collect 150,642 signatures by July 7, 2016, to land the measure on the ballot. Supporters did not, however, submit signatures by the deadline.[2]
