Arizona Free to Work, or I-19-2008 was an initiated state statute that would have bannned refusal to hire or termination of a worker based on one's religion, age, race, disability or sex.
The group had to collect 153,000 valid signatures by July in order to qualify the measure for the November ballot. It did not make the ballot.
Support
Free to Work Arizona was the name of the coalition that organized the initiative. Gay rights groups, such as Equality Arizona, stood behind the initiative.[1]
State Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Phoenix, wanted to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the protected list.
