Arizona Superior Courts address vacancies
April 30, 2012
Arizona: Proceedings are moving ahead to fill vacant seats in two different counties on the Arizona Superior Court.
Maricopa County
The Maricopa County Commission on Trial Court Appointments is currently accepting applications for a vacancy on the Maricopa County Superior Court.[1] This vacancy was created by Governor Jan Brewer's appointment of Judge Samuel A. Thumma to the Arizona Court of Appeals in April 2012.[2] The Commission plans to review applications, interview select applicants, and recommend at least three nominees to Governor Brewer for appointment to the court.[1]
Pima County
The Pima County Commission on Trial Court Appointments has presented Governor Brewer with three candidates to fill a vacant seat on the Pima County Superior Court.[3] This vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge John S. Leonardo on February 29, 2012.[4] The nominees are Democrat Darlene Edminson-O'brien, Republican Brenden J. Griffin, and Republican James E. Marner. Governor Brewer will appoint a new judge from among these three candidates.[3]
