Arkansas 1st State Judicial District
The Arkansas 1st State Judicial District is composed of Benton County. It has 13 departments. The court is served by four judges that serve in numbered division seats. Each judge is elected in a district-wide election every four years.
The district was created in 2011 in a pilot program to reorganize the state's local district courts into new state district courts. The legislation creating this change spread the conversion out over six nonconsecutive years: 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2021, and 2029. The Benton County Local District Court was one of the first courts to be reorganized in the new state district court system.[1]

District courts in Arkansas are divided between local district courts and state district courts. Local district courts feature part-time judges, while state district courts feature full-time judges. Judges of the Arkansas District Courts are each elected to four-year terms. The elections for this court are nonpartisan contested elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be at least 26 years old, a registered voter of their district, and have at least three years of experience practicing law.[2]
