Arkansas Call for Federal Constitutional Amendment for State Authority to Provide Racially Segregated Schools Initiative was on the ballot as an initiated state statute in Arkansas on November 6, 1956. It was approved.

A "yes" vote supported this ballot initiative to call for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution stating that "The legislative, executive and judicial powers of the United States as granted under the Constitution shall not be construed to extend to the regulation of the public schools of any State, nor to include a prohibition to any State, in the exercise of its power, to provide by its laws for the establishment, operation and maintenance of racially separate but substantially equal public schools within such State."

A "no" vote opposed this ballot initiative to call for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution stating that the federal government has no authority to regulate public schools or prohibit states from operating "racially separate but substantially equal public schools."

FOR RESOLUTION AND ACT OF INTERPOSITION.

AGAINST RESOLUTION AND ACT OF INTERPOSITION.

A Resolution and Act by the people of Arkansas calling for an Amendment to the Constitution of the United States prohibiting the Federal Government from exercising power over the operation of public schools in Arkansas; pledging the people to take all appropriate measures to resist illegal encroachments on the power of the State to control its domestic institutions; and calling on people of other states to assist in prohibiting further encroachments by the Federal Government upon the powers reserved to the States.
