Armando Montano
Armando Montano is a justice of the 12th Judicial District Supreme Court in New York. He won the seat in the general election on November 7, 2017.
At the time of his 2017 run for office, Montano was a judge of the New York City Civil Court in Bronx County and an acting justice of the 12th District Supreme Court. He was elected to the civil court in 2013 and named as an acting justice in 2017.[1] Montano also served as a judge of the New York City Criminal Court from 2014 to 2016.[1]
Biography
Montano earned a B.S. from the City College of New York and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. His professional experience includes work as an attorney in private practice.[1]

The 324 justices of the New York Supreme Court are elected to 14-year terms in partisan elections. To appear on the ballot, candidates must be chosen at partisan nominating conventions. Sitting judges wishing to serve an additional term must run for re-election.[3]
The chief judge of the court of appeals appoints two chief administrative judges of the supreme court, one to supervise trial courts within New York City and one to supervise trial courts outside of the city.[3]
Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must:[3]
- be a state resident;
- have had at least 10 years of in-state law practice;
- be at least 18 years old; and
- be under the age of 70 (retirement at 70 is mandatory).

Montano ran for election to the New York City Civil Court. He received 62.0 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary on September 10, 2013, defeating Lucianna Locorotondo. He defeated Lucianna Locorotondo in the general election on November 5, 2013, receiving 93.8 percent of the vote.[4][5][6]
