Armond Schwing
Armond Schwing was a Republican candidate for the 2011 special election to District 22 of the Louisiana State Senate. Schwing was defeated in the January 22 special election.
Biography
Schwing is the Vice President of his family's business, Schwing Insurance Agency, Inc. Since first registering to vote, Schwing has been a member of the Republican Party. He has been involved in various community service activities. He serves as chairman of the White Lake Property Advisory Board, Senior Warden of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, member of the Pepperplex Commission, vice president of the CHS Panther Backers and a member of the New Iberia Kiwanis Club. He is also the former State Chairman of Ducks Unlimited, and has volunteered with New Iberia Optimist Club and United Wat of Iberia. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in finance. He is married to his wife, Jennifer. They have three children.[1]

2011
Schwing's 2011 special election campaign site emphasizes two key policy issues for the 2011 legislative session:
- The Anticipated 2-3 Billion Dollar Budget Deficit: "To my knowledge, I am the first and only candidate to formally adopt and support State Treasurer, John Kennedy's "Plan to Balance the State Budget without Destroying Healthcare and Education." First and foremost, the plan does not raise taxes. It specifically says, "We don't need to. It won't work anyway." It should also be apparent that the plan stays away from reducing spending on Education just from the title. That's the last place we need to be looking anyway... I am confident that you will be impressed with the simplicity of this approach and will recognize why I have chosen to champion this plan."
- Redistricting: "In 2011, in addition to the Regular Session scheduled for April 25 there will be a Special Session of the legislature to address this issue...This is a result of the last census, which identified a shift in Louisiana's population and Louisiana is expected to lose a House seat. The seat being talked about most as being divisible is the 3rd District which includes Senate District 22. My position on this issue is that we need to elect someone as Senator for District 22 who will fight hard to keep our Senate District intact or as close as possible to it's current structure...There are too many similarities among our communities in District 22 to have the district broken up and our representation on the issues diluted."
Elections
2011
Schwing was defeated by Fred Mills, Jr. in the District 22 special election for the Louisiana State Senate. The special election primary took place on January 22. All candidates, regardless of affiliation, appeared on the ballot. Since Mills received more than 50% of the votes, the election did not proceed to a runoff.[2][3]
