Mostly, Art is a father, environmental advocate, and supporter of community voices in the State House. Upon retirement his wife and him fell in love with Plymouth, but unfortunately during this time his son died of a heroine overdose shortly following his graduation, and his wife passed a few years later. This has been his purpose, and he has committed himself to public service. After returning from the Peace Corps, Art received a Master of Business Administration from Boston College. He was a Corporate Executive at Citibank. As an innovative leader, Art brought together people from different cultures and viewpoints to solve deep rooted problems. Art harnessed the diversity of the world to expand what was possible to a new level of cooperation, inclusion, and equity. Passionate to return to public service, Art enrolled in a Master of Public Policy program at Tufts University where he worked in the MA Statehouse finding solutions that work for people in their everyday lives. Art serves on many boards and local committees to build a better, more inclusive community. As a Town Meeting Member, I meet regularly, face to face, with constituents and listen to their concerns. My resident listening sessions in Pinehills are now renown. I will continue this practice for all Plymouth if elected. Fighting for social justice, reaching out to serve others, and finding solutions to impossible problems, are the only things Art has ever known.
  • Ensuring that our children and future generations have a healthy and sustainable environment is one of my priorities. Climate change is one of the defining priorities of our time. I am a major proponent of achieving climate resiliency and sustainability. As an elected member of the Executive Committee of the MA Sierra Club, I participated in advocacy programs and lead local legislative outreach to help enact the Next Generation Roadmap for Massachusetts Climate Policy. It establishes a comprehensive set of environmental programs, provides for education, develops a Green Jobs program and allocates funding to make NetZero a reality. Massachusetts has already achieved a 31% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. We must continue this progress.
  • Access to more affordable housing is one of my legislative priorities. Working families need affordable housing and access to local jobs. We need homes so that people who were born, schooled and retire here can live in Plymouth their entire life. Investing in housing leads to economic growth and healthier outcomes. I voted YES at the last Town Meeting to fund a new Plymouth Master Plan, incorporating affordable housing needs in our community. Working class families also benefit from local, caring, inclusive organizations that provide space for our shared humanity. This is why I participate in the No Place for Hate Committee, Sustainable Plymouth, and others. I will use my office to help these community organizations fulfill this mission.
  • I am committed to making mental and emotional health care more comprehensive, accessible, and affordable in our schools and communities. Championing the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Roadmap will be one of my legislative priorities. This way anyone seeking behavioral health treatment can access it through a central phone line. It provides for Community Behavioral Health Centers with real time urgent care and 24x7 crisis response programs. This is why I joined the board of Child and Family Services that operates a walk in treatment center right here in Plymouth. We need to increase access to treatment as well as education on how and where to get help. The use of NARCAN must be expanded so that it is easily accessible in every emergency.
I am deeply committed to the principles of justice and democracy. A justice which requires that those people who are impacted by public policy get a real and meaningful voice in the making of those policies. I am especially committed to the principle of inclusion. More than just a seat at the table—but the welcoming of all people and their views as we create our social and legislative agenda. I am running because Plymouth needs representation that will take on the issues of the day.

Quality Education Including a higher education
Livable and Affordable Communities
Behavioral Health
Environmental Sustainability

Social Equity
This position is particularly important because I will be the voice of the Plymouth people of the 1st district. I have the power in Beacon Hill to fight for important legislation and I get to commit my time to making all my legislative goals a priority and represent our community with pride. I will be our voice on Beacon Hill. If elected, I will partner with town meeting members and others to develop legislative solutions to challenges and opportunities that impact Plymouth. They have already given me a long list of ideas. From my position I will be able to listen to the needs of our community and voice them in the state house, fighting every day to make the community and lives of every person in Plymouth better.
My Mom and Dad steadfastly believed in helping others in need. An ideal I try to live up to everyday. My Dad was a WWII Navy vet. He proudly served on the Liberty Ship the USS Joshua Thomas. I look up to him and all veterans for their service and sacrifice, inspiring me to join the Peace Corps, and dedicate my life to serving our community like my parents and many others.
I believe that the most beneficial quality an elected official is involvement. As someone who had committed my life to becoming a leader in our community, it is of the utmost importance that our elected officials are doing everything they can to make imported progress and changes, whether in an elected position or not. Being an important member of the community has allowed me to become more empathetic and connect with the people I hope to represent. The connections I have made within my community through advocacy and outreach groups is unmatched, not only do people know who I am, but they know what I stand for at a glance. My priority is creating a better Plymouth, in order to create the best Plymouth, I have to be involved in every aspect which I have made my ultimate mission. Elected officials, especially ones running for representative such as myself need to involve themselves in their communities, not only to get votes, but to create the biggest and most meaningful impact during their time in office.
My skills as a coalition builder, which I learned as a Fortune 500 corporate executive, make me uniquely qualified to build coalitions at the Statehouse. It is only by building coalitions that can we bring about transformational change that will benefit Plymouth.
I know first-hand how mental and emotional health issues consume and destroy the dreams of families. After my wife and I had moved to Plymouth for retirement, my son struggled greatly with mental and emotional health. He had turned to drugs and after his graduation, sadly passed of a heroine overdose. It devastated our family, and not many years later my wife passed as well, my family was gone and it devastated me. However it has also been my North Star for public service and advocacy. I know what it feels like to admit to your doctor that your child or spouse is suffering from mental or emotional health issues or addiction which is why mental and emotional health is one of my top priorities.
