Education
Gilbert earned his bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1960. He received his LL.B. from the University of California Berkeley School of Law, Boalt Hall in 1963.[4]
Career
In 1964, Gilbert began his legal career as a deputy city attorney in Los Angeles. He was in private practice from 1965 to 1975. After that, he was appointed to the Los Angeles Municipal Court, where he served until 1980 when he was appointed to the Superior Court.[4]
