Arthur J. Gonzalez
Arthur J. Gonzalez was a bankruptcy judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He retired from the court on March 1, 2012.[1]
Education
Judge Gonzalez graduated with his undergraduate degree in accounting from Fordham in 1969 and graduated with a Masters in education from Brooklyn College in 1974. Gonzalez later received his J.D. degree from Fordham Law in 1982 and graduated with an Master in Laws degree specializing in taxation from New York University School of Law in 1990.
Career
Before entering the legal profession, Judge Gonzalez spent fourteen years as a teacher in the New York City public school system.
Gonzalez began his legal career as an attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service and earned the Chief Counsel's Special Achievement Award for three consecutive years. Thereafter, Gonzalaez practiced with the firms of Pollner, Mezan, Stolzberg, Berger & Glass, P.C. and Gaston & Snow in New York City.
Federal judicial career
Judge Gonzalez was appointed Assistant United States Trustee in the Southern District of New York in 1991. He was appointed United States Trustee for Region 2 (Second Circuit) in 1993 and served in that position until his appointment as a bankruptcy judge to the Southern District of New York in 1995 to a fourteen-year term.
