I want to make life better for all Floridians. I am a lifelong Volunteer and I look at this opportunity to extend my Volunteer work. We have families struggling to survive in Florida amid rising housing costs, lack of healthcare and poor Public Schools. We are going in the wrong direction in Florida. We have to turn around and start taking care of young families and Seniors alike.
  • Housing costs are too high in Florida and they keep going up. We have to stop this relentless increase in homeowners and car insurance. Even grocery shopping is becoming stressful because of rising prices. Trump/DeSantis Agenda is wrong for Florida imposing tariffs and dehumanizing migrants. The end result is that life is becoming more difficult for Florida residents.

I would start a Hurricane Insurance Fund for the whole state. That way your own insurance company will only provide fire and theft insurance. If this is done, your insurance premiums will drop like a rock.

For grocery prices, we have to not do Federal Govt's work in detaining migrants and scaring the rest from going to work. Let us find a more humane solution.
  • Healthcare has become a major issues now with the $1 Trillion cuts to Medicaid in the OBBB Law. Florida has not expanded Medicaid but it is time that we do expand Medicaid and help more than 1 Million people who are going to lose healthcare due to Medicaid cuts next year. The 4.2 Million Floridians use Medicaid as a lifeline. We cannot let them sink. Alongside these cuts are going to force rural hospitals in Florida to close down. State of Florida Budget receives 40% of revenue from the Federal Govt. These kinds of drastic cuts are going to throw the State Budget into imbalance in 2027. We have to proactively make provisions for the incoming psunami in 2026. We have take care of our Seniors and others on Medicaid.
  • Public Schools are hurting because Florida keeps on transferring more and more money to Charter Schools. We have to stop that hollowing of Public Education in Florida where 90% of students attend Public Schools. Teachers pay is so low that we rank 50th out of 50 States. The result is that there is shortage of 7500 teachers in Florida. I know that in Sumter County, they are hiring "Teachers in Training" to be classroom teachers. In other words, your children are being taught by anyone they can find on the street who can pretend to be a "teacher". We have to increase funding for Public Schools, not decrease it as is being done even this year. We have to reverse course for the good of our children.
Education and Transportation: I am a Civil Engineer with M.S. from Carnegie Mellon Univ. I have worked in the transportation field most of my career in Pittsburgh, PA. I want to use my knowledge and experience for the betterment of Florida.
I have been a Volunteer Teacher in an after school program in Pittsburgh run by Felician Sisters for about 10 years. I am currently a Volunteer Teacher in Wildwood Middle High School for the last 6 years. I am passionate about education, specially of school age children. I would like to use my knowledge and experience to good use in the Legislature to improve Public Education in Florida.
A Legislator needs to have the interest of the Constituents first and foremost. What is happening today in Florida is that the Legislators are lining their own pockets by virtue of their positions. I have seen it with multiple members elected from this area how they have used their positions to enrich themselves or win advancements in their careers.
I am not looking for anything other than to serve the residents of Florida to the best of my ability.
A Senator elected in Florida has to take care of housing, healthcare and education for the resident of his/her District and by extension take care of every one in Florida. There are only 40 Senators in Florida Senate. Each Senator has an immense responsibility that the Constituents are well served. Along with the power of the position of the Senator comes the responsibility of serving the people.

There is shortage of affordable housing in Florida. The Sadowski Fund for Affordable Housing has been raided by the Legislature for 20 years. We have to reverse that flow and build up the Fund to provide more affordable housing to Floridians.
Our homeowners insurance costs keep on climbing. The laws passed in 2022 leave much to be desired. Almost half the Claims since those laws were passed are being denied by Insurance companies. As a Senator, I would feel it my utmost responsibility to see to it that legitimate insurance claims are paid promptly and I will promote Legislation to that effect.
I will also promote Legislation to increase funding for Public Schools. That is an area that has been neglected by the Legislature for years. It is time that we quit sacrificing the education of our children in favor of the ultra wealthy owners of Charter Schools.

Our Seniors need the utmost care in light of severe cuts coming to healthcare. The dually eligible Medicare/Medicaid recipients are going to be hard hit next year when these cuts start getting implemented. We have to be willing and ready for our Senior population and take care of their needs. It is widely expected that many rural hospitals and Nursing Homes will close their doors in the coming years. We have to be ready with alternatives to address this impending issue.
I am already telling my children and grand children the virtues of Public Service. That is the legacy I would like to leave, that of Public Service.
It was historical event to me when President Eisenhour came to visit India. I must have been 10 years old. Our school was closed and we all went to see the President's motorcade. It was a fun experience.
My first job was as Sales Engineer. I was new in the country so this job gave me a lot of exposure because it required traveling all over Eastern United States. I enjoyed the work very much too. But I wanted to be an Engineer first and not a Salesman. I left that job after 3 years to join an Engineering Consulting Company where I could do a lot more of Engineering work.
State Legislature should be an equal Partner with the Governor unlike what is going on today. The Governor is railroading his Agenda through the Legislature without any meaningful dialogue with the Legislature.
I will work hard to restore that necessary Partnership with the Governor.
Housing, Healthcare and Public Education remain the biggest challenges. Also in light of Federal cuts to FEMA, we are facing some hard decision if and when a hurricane hits Florida. We have waster precious monies in building and then dismantling Alligator Alcatraz ($250 Million) or suing Snapchat ($50 Million). We cannot be wasting money in such stunts but rather spend the precious resources on hurricane recovery efforts in the absence of FEMA. Already half the insurance claims are being denied to the victims of hurricanes. In the absence of FEMA, we have to make sure that victims of future hurricanes are made whole regardless of their color, creed or culture.
Yes, very much so. A Senator position comes with extreme amount of responsibility and you cannot have "on the job training" for a Senator and lose precious time. The Legislature meets for only 60 days in the year and every day has to be productive for a Senator to make life better for all Floridians.
Yes, and I will work with Legislators across the isle too if I can help make life better for the average citizens of Florida. Too many times, the Legislators fail to work together when the end result would be the best for the people. I would like to change that paradigm for the betterment of everyone in Florida.
Every Legislation is an intricate process and you have to work with your fellow Legislators and it is very fruitful to build relationships as you go along.
Bill Sadowski comes to mind. The Sadowski Affordable Housing Trust Fund is named after him. He was a respected public servant and environmental attorney. He served as a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1976 to 1982 representing the 113th District. In 1991, Governor Lawton Chiles persuaded him to return to public service as head of the Dept. of Community Affairs (DCA), where he talked growth management and housing issues.
Bill Sadowski died in a plane crash in 1992 at the age of 48. The accident occurred when the pilot suffered a heart attack mid-flight.
Yes, I visited United Methodist Church in Lake Panasoffkee to help them with their food pantry. It did not seem anything out of the ordinary. But they told me to come back on any Wednesday morning when they distribute free food. So I went there around 9 AM on a Wednesday and I could not believe my eyes. There were hundreds of cars lined up for free food. I never imagined the poverty was so entrenched in Sumter County, in our backyard. And not only that, they told me that on an average, each car takes food for 3 families, which means they are feeding 900 families every week. It was the most humbling experience in my lifetime.
Legislature should oversee the emergency powers. Sometimes it is very time limited that you have to make decisions fast but even in those situations, I believe the Legislature by virtue of its deliberative nature is the best place for the use of emergency powers.
Increase funding for Public Schools including a major increase in teachers' pay. Public Schools are the lifeblood of our children and we are neglecting them in current conditions. I want to change the scenario, propose my first Bill to raise teachers' pay across the State.

Ballot initiative has been made harder by the changes in law recently. I would like to go back to the status quo as of the beginning of last year before these changes were made. In fact, I would like to go further and change the Ballot Initiatives to pass by simple majority rather than the 60% vote required under present law. I would also make it easier to collect the Petitions, just as it was at the beginning of 2024.
In 2022, the Florida Turnpike Commission was going to build Northern Turnpike Extension, an 80 miles of road through existing homes, farms, businesses from Wildwood to Chiefland. I got involved because I understood what they were doing based on my background of Civil Engineering and working in road and bridge construction, design and inspection. I spoke to the Florida Transportation Commission and then spoke with Ms. Nichola Liquori, CEO of Florida Turnpike Commission. I told her that a better option for them would be to widen I-75 from Wildwood to Micanopy instead of ruining the lives of thousands of people along the new 80 miles of road they were proposing. She agreed and that is exactly what FDOT is doing today. I-75 is being widened and the Norther Turnpike Extension project has been put on hold.
None. I feel very confident about how the elections are held in Florida. I have interacted with Supervisors of Elections in at least 3 Counties and I am impressed by their quality of work, their dilligence to detail and their efforts to perfection. There is no need to do anything more, just let each Supervisor of Elections do their job.

I am a grandfather of 7 children, married for 50 years, Civil Engineer by profession. I have been a volunteer worker for most of my life. I see this election as an extension of my volunteer work so that I can do some good for the people.
  • Abortion: I want the Florida Law banning abortion after 6 weeks rescinded. A Yes Vote on Amendment 4 will also help to reach that goal. The current laws in Florida is treating women as less than human. It is dehumanizing women.
  • Homeowners Insurance Laws passed in 2022 gave away $3 Billion of our tax dollars for Reinsurance. That was WELFARE PAYMENTS to GIANT Insurance companies. That has to change so that insurance premiums for homeowners do not keep spiking or insurance companies leaving Florida. We need insurance laws in favor of the homeowners not insurance companies. And we need to enforce/strengthen Building Codes so that we have more homes resilient to storms and hurricanes.
  • We need to reinstate the Department advising Counties on "where not to build". This crucial department was disbanded under Rick Scott Administration in 2010. This is absolutely necessary with the increase in frequency and intensity of storms.
Transportation. I am a Civil Engineer and I worked on building bridges in Pittsburgh area during my professional career. I have a strong interest in seeing better and better network of roads, railroads and public transportation. I admire novel approaches to transportation needs as is being done in The Villages in Florida where there is a network of golf cart paths.. People can travel from one end of town to the other end in their golf carts. The high speed rail from Orlando to Miami is another admirable achievement.
President Barack Obama because he came through Chicago politics and he is not dirty. From what I know of Chicago politics, it is remarkable that Obama became President of United States.
The book is "My Experiments with Truth" by MK Gandhi. He steadfastly pursues the meaning of "Truth" his whole life.
Honesty and some life's principals as the guiding light. The public official must never take advantage of the position for personal gains. Even small things can ruin a stellar record for an elected official.
My analytical skills. As an Engineer, I tend to analyse issues in the same detail as I did in an engineering problem. It helps to see the various aspects of the issues without getting too attached to one solution only. And the detailed analysis also helps to see the majority point of view.
To take care of the best interests of the majority of the District. It is extremely poor on some politicians to cater to the large donors to their campaigns at the expense of the people who voted them into office in the first place.
That I served honestly and in the best interest of my constituents.
President Eisenhower came to New Delhi, India. It was great pomp and show. I was 12 years old. Our school was closed so that we could be at the Presidential route to witness it unfolding. It was exhilarating and a lot of fun for a 12 year old.
Sales Engineer and I worked in that job for 3 years. I was new in the country and the job involved traveling, which just worked wonders to introduce me to the country. As an Engineer, I wanted to get my PE license also and this job was not good to advance me in the Engineering field. I had to leave the job, go to Consulting Engineering work and get my PE license shortly thereafter.
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand for showing perseverance, personal responsibility and of course independent thinking.
They long to be, close to you...by Carpenters
Too quick a response to an issue. I am able to analyse and come to a conclusion rather quickly. It is too quick for others to accept. I keep trying to delay my response time but I still feel I am not slow enough.
It should be a Partnership where the Legislature is an equal Partner. The way it has been working though is that the Legislature has been passing a whole lot of Bills and the Governor picks and chooses which ones to sign into law. And there have been simply too many laws passed in the last 4 years, 500+ laws according to my count. Florida was not a lawless society 4 years ago that we needed so many laws. Time will show the results from these large numbers of laws and their effects on daily lives of Floridians.
Homes built on the coast are going to have a difficult time with potential hurricanes. And the rest of Florida is going to feel the pain of rising homeowners insurance rates. There is no easy solution for overbuilding on the shoreline and the changing weather which is bringing more storms and with much greater intensity.
Yes, any previous experience in politics is very helpful. Experience in government can be from directly working for the government or working for industries that deal with government on a regular basis like banking, road and bridge construction and the like. It definitely helps in seeing things in a better perspective.
Yes, it helps to be able to have a healthy discussion of proposed legislations. But I don't like the fact that some Legislators use their relationships to get legislation passed for their personal benefit, or for their employer. This is happening in Florida and I have experienced it.
No, I have not dealt with any Legislator that closely to see what they are doing. I did like Senator John Heinz of Pennsylvania and from whatever little I know about him, he would be a good model.
Yes, when I served on Franklin Park Borough Council, one of the homes in the area was getting flooded every time it rained. It was a result of construction of homes over 25 years but no one thought of the impact of rainwater, as they would have, had the area been built all at once. I thought the homeowner was caught in big mess. We resolved it finally when Borough Council agreed with me to take the necessary action to resolve the flooding of one house in a neighborhood of expensive homes.
It's called reading. It's how people install new software into their brains.
No, it would get embroiled in too much discussion and the intent of emergency will be lost in some cases.
Rescind SB300, the 6 week ban on abortion in Florida.
Democratic Party of Sumter County and Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida
Transportation and Education. Transportation is my professional background and Education is my deep interest. I have been a volunteer teacher in an after school program for 10 years in Pittsburgh area. I am a volunteer teacher now in Wildwood Middle High School.
These are the basic tenets of governing. You have to be able to show the public what you have achieved successfully and also where you have failed.
I support ballot inittiative process in its current form. I have seen the process at work these past few years and I believe it is a good way to allow the citizens to have a voice directly rather than always through the Legislature.
