Audie Cornish is a journalist who works for CNN as an anchor and senior analyst.[1] Cornish previously hosted NPR's evening newsmagazine All Things Considered and worked at NPR from 2005 to 2022.[2]

Background

Cornish graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.[2] She began her career in journalism with the Associated Press in Boston, where she covered the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and their aftermath.[2] Cornish also reported for WBUR in Boston, covering a number of high-profile stories, including "the legalization of same sex marriage, the sexual abuse scandal in the Boston Roman Catholic Archdiocese, as well as Boston's hosting of the Democratic National Convention."[1]

Work and activities

Work at NPR

Cornish joined NPR as a regional reporter on the American South in 2005. In that role, Cornish covered Hurricane Katrina and the aftereffects for the region.[3]

In May 2011, Cornish began hosting Weekend Edition Sunday, and she transitioned to a role as co-host of All Things Considered six months later. Initially, she was slated to temporarily fill the role of Michelle Norris, whose husband was working on President Barack Obama's re-election campaign. In January 2013, NPR announced Cornish would remain as a co-host of All Things Considered permanently.[4]

At the time of her move to All Things Considered, Cornish told Capitol File: "Like everyone else, I’m a fan, and I’ve been hearing that music for years now. The thing people forget is that we’re in a studio. I feel like I’m only talking to one or two people because I am. And when it comes out of the radio, it feels like we’re talking directly to you."[5]

Work at CNN

In January 2022, Cornish announced she would be leaving NPR.[6] Later that month, CNN announced Cornish would be joining the company as an anchor and correspondent for CNN+, the company's streaming service.[7] The network announced "Cornish will host a weekly CNN+ show and contribute to CNN+’s slate of live programming. She will also host a new podcast for CNN Audio and will appear on CNN covering national, political and breaking news."[7]

In January 2025, CNN announced that Cornish would take over as host of CNN This Morning.[8] As of August 2025, Cornish hosted a weekly podcast, The Assignment with Audie Cornish, which CNN said "explores the animating forces of this extraordinary American political moment."[1]
