|- Spanko identifies public education funding, access to equitable health care, and voting rights as her top priorities.
- Spanko believes that without access to health coverage, health concerns go undiagnosed or untreated, often forcing individuals to miss work and lose wages because of severe but preventable health issues. She will fight to expand Medicaid coverage and income qualifications through the Affordable Care Act, which would increase the eligibility for hundreds of thousands of Texans.
- Currently, about 75% of eligible voters in Texas are registered to vote, but over the last 20 years, no more than 60% of registered voters have turned out for an election. Texas makes it is too difficult to be an active voter in Texas. Spanko will work to increase voting rights of eligible voters.
Currently, 54% of households in the district make less than $50,000 annually, forcing individuals and families to make hard financial decisions. I plan to fight for an increase to the state minimum wage to elevate all residents of the district. East Texans work really hard to support their families and they deserve to be paid a living wage.
