The candidate filing deadline was April 19, 2016. Incumbent Marilyn Lane (D) did not seek re-election because of term-limits.

William Sowerby defeated Lisa Valerio-Nowc and Michael Saliba in the Michigan House of Representatives District 31 general election.[1]

Austin Negipe is a Libertarian Republican who believes in individual liberties and freedoms with minimal government intervention. He is a brother in Christ. He graduated with honors in Economics from Oakland University in 2010. Since 2010, he has been a mortgage banker helping local families obtain financing to buy their homes. He believes in homeownership and the power of local communities. As a father of two young boys, he will also focus on our education system and helping create opportunities for the next generation.
  • Austin believes in minimal government intervention in our lives. Decentralization of State power to the local government.
  • Let’s keep political agendas out of public schools. Parents should have a choice of education for their children. He wants children to have the best opportunities when they graduate and transition to adulthood.
  • To decrease wasteful spending from state budget and decrease taxes and costs paid by the citizens.
State budget, education, individual taxes, and protecting personal freedoms and liberties.
