Campaign themes
2016
Ruiz's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Taxes and Government Spending: As a local small businessman, I know how to balance a budget and plan for responsible growth. Unlike our federal government, we are blessed in this state to have a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget. Still, the financial tax burden on Texans is too high. I will bring my experience and common-sense solutions to Austin to make sure that conservative economic policy is implemented and preserved so that our taxes can be reduced while keeping our economy strong. Protect the Second Amendment: Nothing is more important that our second amendment right to keep and bear arms. I am a member of the National Rifle Association and proud to have my concealed handgun license. I support open carry and I will fight any attempts to curtail our second amendment right. Border Security: National security is too important and the threats from terrorism and drug cartels are too high to not secure our border. The federal government has failed to protect its citizens from these threats to our way of life. Texas must act where the federal government has failed. I will work to make sure our border with Mexico is secure so that Texas and America are protected against violence and terrorism. Pro-Life: Life is a precious gift from God that must be protected. Life begins at conception, and the failings of people do not change that fact. In Austin, I will always fight for the rights of the unborn. Keep Our Water Here: Water investment and preservation is critical for our state and our district. I will fight to protect our steep investments in water infrastructure by opposing "water grabs" from Lake Belton and Stillhouse by communities who do not plan ahead like we did.[1] |
