Candidate Connection

Aziz Ahmad participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on March 27, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Aziz Ahmad's responses follow below.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Education Reform

2) Common Sense Gun Policy
3) Healthcare[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

As a teacher, I am very passionate about education reform. I believe that the current education system is deeply flawed and there are real actions that can be taken to improve the system. I am confident that a better education system is the basis to solving our state and national issues.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Aziz Ahmad answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I would like to follow the example set by Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders. I appreciate Obama's bipartisan efforts toward progress in issues like healthcare. I also appreciate Sanders' progressive mindset that questions our current system and creates ideas that work to dismantle ineffective systems as opposed to work within them.[4]
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
The Speech: A Historic Filibuster on Corporate Greed and the Decline of Our Middle Class by Bernie Sanders[4]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty, transparency and loyalty to the people you are representing.[4]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I am energetic, ambitious, passionate and I love my community. I will work tirelessly to innovate ideas that will lead to progress for all people.[4]

I clearly remember 9/11. I was about 5 or 6 at the time. I remember being taken home from school and having neighbors visit, but not really understanding what was going on and how significant it was.[4]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was as a server at Golden Corral. I was 15. The restaurant was coincidentally shut down about 2 months later (I promise it wasn't my fault!)[4]
