Four seats on the Garland City Council were up for election in 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 19, 2016. Since only one person filed to run for each of the seats, the election was cancelled. Had there been any contested races, the election would have occurred on May 7, 2016.[2][3] Williams was unopposed in his bid for re-election to District 4 of the city council.
