I am a Payson native, having lived here over 50 years. I went to Payson Schools and graduated from Payson High School. I was employed by Nebo School District for 35 years. I started my career as an elementary school teacher. I was assistant principal and principal of Payson High School. I was then asked to go to the District Office where I was in charge of Student Services (at-risk students, counselors, homeless, severe discipline problems). After several years in that department I was asked to be the Director of Secondary Education. In that position I was responsible for every secondary school in the district. My last position was that of Assistant Superintendent for Nebo School District. I was in that position for 12 years.
  • I believe that student success should be the focus of every employee in a school system.
  • I believe that students, parents, and school employees are all an important part of the education system. Each should be listened to, and their ideas/suggestions should be the foundation for the school system.
  • I believe that District policy and procedure should empower everyone involved in the educational system to be successful. If a policy or procedure is hindering success, it should be reviewed, updated, or discontinued. Having worked in Nebo School District for 35 years, I believe I have the knowledge and skills of how to achieve effective policy and procedures that empower students, parents, and educators to reach their full potential.
As a potential board member of Nebo School District, policies in Nebo School District are my priority and passion. I do not have an "agenda" of what needs to be fixed, but I do have a belief that policies can and should be improved and updated as needed.
I vividly remember when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. I was 10 years old at the time and our neighborhood held a party while it was being broadcast. I remember looking up at the moon and realizing that people were there. I was in total awe (and I still am).
I started picked cherries in a local orchard when I was 10 years old. I had a job in the orchard for over five years, then worked in a grocery story as the assistant produce manager until I went to college.
The primary job of a school board member is to listen to the ideas, questions, and concerns of the students, parents, and employees of Nebo District. Helping create procedures and policies that comply with law and help empower people within the district is also a primary responsibility of a school board member.
The Utah County Republican Party has endorsed me although the position is non-partisan.
