Two of the seven seats on the Baldwin County Public Schools school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on March 1, 2016.
District 4 incumbent Norman Moore did not file for re-election, while District 7 incumbent Shannon Cauley (R) ran for another term. Newcomer JaNay Dawson (R) ran unopposed in the District 4 race. Cauley defeated Chris Francis (R) in the primary election. Dawson and Cauley won election without opposition in the general election.[1][2]

The Baldwin County Board of Education consists of seven members elected by district to six-year terms. Three seats were up for election in 2014.[3]

Prospective board candidates were required to file with county party officials by November 6, 2015. Candidates must be 18 years old and reside in their counties for at least one year prior to the election.[5]

Baldwin County Public Schools is located in Baldwin County, Alabama. The county seat of Baldwin County is Bay Minette. Baldwin County was home to 200,111 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[8] The district was the fourth-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 30,281 students.[9]
Demographics
Baldwin County outperformed the state of Alabama in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 27.7 percent of Baldwin County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 22.3 percent for Alabama as a whole. The median household income in Baldwin County was $50,706, compared to $43,160 for the state of Alabama. The poverty rate in Baldwin County was 13.3 percent, compared to 18.1 percent for the entire state.[8]
