Georgia's Congressional Elections in 2012
U.S. Senate Election? U.S. House seats Possible competitive races?
No 14 1

Atlanta: Georgia: Georgia has 14 U.S. House seats on the ballot in 2012. Georgia gained one seat as a result of the redistricting that took place following the 2010 census. All 13 incumbents are running for re-election, 10 of whom face a challenger in the general election (76.9%).

Three incumbent Republicans are running completely unopposed in the general election, Lynn A. Westmoreland in District 3, Austin Scott in District 8, and Paul Broun in District 10. Austin Scott also faced no competition in the primary.

One district is thought to be competitive in Georgia according to The New York Times race ratings, District 12. The district is considered to be a toss-up. Democratic incumbent John Barrow faces a challenge from Lee Anderson (R) in a more Republican district now, thanks to redistricting. Barrow, long a target of Republicans in the state, has campaigned as a conservative Democrat in the district. He is endorsed by the National Rifle Association and has released advertisements toting his support of the second amendment as well as his fight against earmarks. Anderson is a current member of the Georgia House of Representatives.[1]

Currently, the Republican Party holds eight of the 13 Congressional seats from Georgia. According to race ratings from the website RealClearPolitics, Georgia's 12th is the 14th most likely district in the nation to swap party control.[2]

In Georgia, polls are open from 7 AM until 7 PM Eastern Time on Election Day. Any voter who is waiting in line to vote at 7:00 PM will be allowed to vote.[3]
