HELENA: Montana: There are 126 total legislative seats with 2012 elections in Montana, where most polling places are open from 7 AM to 8 PM Mountain Time. (Some polling places open at noon.)[1]
Both chambers are considered unlikely to change partisan control.
Of the 126 incumbents up for election in 2012, 83 (65.9%) of them are running for re-election. A total of 42 of 126 (33.3%) districts will see more than one major party candidate in the general election.
Here are a few races to watch:
Senate
- In District 1, David B. Fern (D) and Dee L. Brown (R) are running to replace Republican incumbent Ryan Zinke.
- In District 6, state representative Janna Taylor (R-11) -- who defeated incumbent Carmine Mowbray in the Republican primary -- faces Nancy Lindsey, who was appointed to the Democratic nomination after the primary.
- In District 27, incumbent Gary Branae (D) is challenged by House District 53 incumbent Elsie Arntzen.
House
- In District 19, Richard D. Liebert (D) and Roger A. Hagan (R) are running for the seat vacated by House Speaker Mike Milburn (R).
- In District 53, Joseph Sands (D) and Dave Hagstrom (R) are running for the seat vacated by Elsie Arntzen (R), who is running for the state senate.
- In District 91, Chuck Erickson (D) and David Moore (R) are running for the seat vacated by Timothy Furey (D).
