JUNEAU: Rhode Island: There are 113 total legislative seats with 2012 elections in Rhode Island, where most polls open at 7:00 AM and all polls close at 8:00 PM.
The State Senate is overwhelmingly Democratic, with Republicans holding only 9 of 38 seats. The House is also unlikely to switch to Republican control.
Of the 113 incumbents up for election in 2012, 100 (88.5%) of them are running for re-election. A total of 48 of 113 (42.5%) districts will see more than one major party candidate in the general election.
Here are a few races to watch:
Senate
- District 9: Adam J. Satchell (D) will take on Paul P Caianiello Jr. (R).
- District 33: Well known Democrat Leonidas Raptakis will take on freshman Senator Glenford Shibley.
House
- District 30: Antonio Giarrusso beat out two other Republicans to take the party's nomination, and will now face Democrat Mark Schwager and Independent Kevin J. Mcdonough in the general election.
- District 51: Republican Christopher Roberts will challenge freshman Democrat Robert Phillips.
