COLUMBIA: South Carolina: South Carolina has seven U.S. House seats on the ballot in 2012. One new district was created after the 2010 census, so there are just six incumbents running for re-election. Joe Wilson (R) in the 2nd Congressional District is the only candidate without at least one opponent on the ballot. The other six districts have at least two candidates on the ballot, with the 1st and 4th districts having three candidates in total. The 6th Congressional District is the only district to have no Republican candidate, as Democratic incumbent Jim Clyburn will face Green Party candidate Nammu Y Muhammad. For the primaries, South Carolina had the 38th most competitive congressional primaries in 2012, with 35.71% of major party primaries having been contested (5 out of 14).
Currently, the Democratic Party holds one Congressional seat and the Republican Party holds five. The seventh seat was added after redistricting and is considered a toss-up that leans Republican.
In the most competitive race on the ballot, Gloria Bromell Tinubu (D) faces Tom Rice (R) for the newly created 7th District.
In South Carolina, the polls open at 7 AM and all locations close at 7 PM local time.[1]
