RICHMOND: Virginia: Virginia has 11 U.S. House seats and one U.S. Senate seat on the ballot in 2012. All 11 incumbents are running for re-election in their same districts. Each of the 11 districts has at least two candidates on the ballot, the 11th Congressional District has the most candidates with a total of six candidates seeking to be elected.
According to the New York Times, Virginia's 2nd Congressional District is considered the only competitive seat in the upcoming election. It is currently a Republican held seat.[1] Real Clear Politics further states that the seat is ranked 49th, out of 50, to change parties in the election.[2] The most competitive race will occur for the U.S. Senate, with former governors Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) battling for the seat, which ultimately could determine which party controls the chamber.
Currently, the Democratic Party holds three Congressional seats and the Republican Party holds eight.
In Virginia, the polls are open at 6 AM and close at 7 PM local time.[3]

U.S. Senate
Incumbent Jim Webb (D) chose not to run for re-election. Democratic candidate Tim Kaine did not face any opponents in the June 12 primary while Republican candidate George Allen defeated three other candidates to get the nomination. Recent polls conducted prior to the election have Kaine with a slight lead. Allen is seeking to reclaim the seat that he lost to Webb in the 2006 general election.
