#FridayFact Answer

Term limits prevent individuals from holding office for more than a maximum number of years, and in state legislatures, term limits can either be lifetime or consecutive. Twenty-nine percent of state Senators who represent one of the 15 states with term limits are ineligible to run in 2018.

This week's #FridayFact asked: Which state Senate has the highest percentage of term-limited legislators headed into 2018? You selected from the following choices.

  • Colorado
  • Michigan
  • Missouri
  • Ohio

The correct answer was Michigan. In that state, 26 of the 38 Senate seats up for re-election in 2018 (68.4 percent) are occupied by term-limited legislators. This is the highest percentage of term-limited seats in any state legislative chamber headed into the 2018 elections.
