a. July
b. August
c. September
d. October

In recent presidential elections, nominating conventions have typically been held towards the end of summer. In the 2020 cycle, the Democratic convention was between July 13-16, while the Republican convention took place between August 24-27. Three major-party nominating conventions have taken place during the first week of September, all of them in the 21st century.

The first convention to take place during September was the 2004 Republican National Convention, held in New York City between August 30 and September 2. The first convention to take place entirely during the month of September was the 2008 Republican National Convention, held in St. Paul, Minnesota, between September 1-4. The only Democratic convention to take place in September was the 2012 convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, held between September 4-6.

Prior to the 21st century, the latest major-party nominating convention was the 1864 Democratic National Convention, which was held between August 29-31 in Chicago. The earliest major-party nominating convention in presidential history was the 1860 Democratic National Convention, which opened in April.[1][2][3]
