Ballotpedia:How we review person photo submissions
Ballotpedia invites all candidates to complete our Candidate Connection survey when they run for elected office. As part of the survey, candidates are invited to submit their photo. After review, these photos are embedded on the candidate's Ballotpedia profile.
Elected officeholders within Ballotpedia's coverage scope are encouraged to email us their photo.
Here are Ballotpedia's guidelines for person photos:
- Photos must be of the correct person
- Photos must be a headshot showing only one person
- The person's face must be clearly visible and unobstructed
- The person must be fully clothed
- Photo must not contain any words or symbols that distract from the person
- Photo must be in color
- Photo must be recent (ideally less than two years old)
- Must be an actual photo without any filters, edits, or generative AI alteration (other than cropping or resizing)
- File name must correspond to the name of the person
- File format must be a .png, .jpeg, or .jpg
- Photo must be 2MB or less
Ballotpedia retains editorial discretion over which photos are uploaded. Click here to read more about Ballotpedia's editorial approach to election coverage.
