News about ballot measures
2009 was an active year for ballot measure litigation and statutory changes and the pace did not let up in December:
- Maryland may see bill that loosens petition requirements
- Federal judge rules that Michigan residency requirement is unconstitutional
- ACLU and CICF team up to fight restrictive Nebraska petition laws
- Missouri eminent domain ballot title litigation raises concerns about motive
Signatures are also being filed in anticipation of the 2010 ballot. In Colorado, signatures have already been filed for three contenders, although the signature deadline isn't until early August 2010. Some California groups have filed signatures for what is shaping up to be a very lively ballot measure season and just this week, casino interests filed signatures in Maine for another shot at a casino in Oxford County.
