News about ballot measures
Significant news in the The Ballot Initiative Gazette since the last edition of BP Review:
- The Ohio Casino Initiative (2009) will be on the November 3, 2009 ballot, according to Jennifer Brunner.
- 2009 is shaping up to be the Year of the Veto Referendum. After Ted Kulongoski signed a $733 million tax increase package in Oregon, opponents announced they would referendum the measure through the Oregon Tax Hike Referendum (2010). In the State of Washington, a group says it is soon turning in signatures to qualify Washington Referendum 71 (2009) for the ballot. Maine voters are already voting this November on the Maine Repeal the School District Consolidation Laws (2009). This ballot measure may be joined by the Maine Same-Sex Marriage People's Veto (2009).
- Lawsuits and challenges are flying hot-and-heavy, as we see here and here and here and here.
- Coming up, look for election results on what may be the first marijuana tax in the country.
