Middleton, Wis. - January 8, 2020: Today, Ballotpedia announced the upcoming release of My Vote Ballotpedia, a smartphone app that allows users to preview the elections and candidates that will appear on their ballots. While Ballotpedia has been providing a mobile-friendly sample ballot lookup tool on Ballotpedia.org since 2016, this will be the first smartphone app from the organization.
This application will include all of the capabilities found on Ballotpedia.org’s sample ballot lookup tool plus unique features listed below.
"Many voters are already looking up election information from their phones, some even while in line to cast a vote.
We wanted to make it even easier for these voters to do the research that helps them feel confident they are choosing the candidate that best matches their values." said Geoff Pallay, Ballotpedia’s Editor in chief.
Features of the app include:
- Preview your ballot
- Enter your address and see all the elections we are covering in your districts.
- Multiple election dates
- If there are upcoming primary, special, and general elections for your address, you’ll pick the one you want to get information on.
- Local elections
- We cover every election taking place within the 100 largest cities. If you are one of the 62 million within this scope, you’ll get a look at every race on the ballot. If not, we’ll still deliver the state and federal information to you, plus give you tips on how to find more information on your own local races.
- Dive as deep as you want
- We’re happy to give you the name of each candidate on the ballot, but that alone doesn’t offer much help when it comes time to choose which candidate you feel best represents you. The app also features candidates’ responses to questions designed to help you get to know the real person, not just their talking points. And of course, their full Ballotpedia profile is always one click away.
- Save your picks
- Researching your ballot before you head to the polls? Choose a candidate or option for each race and easily reference your list once you get in the voting booth.
- One-way information
- Your privacy is important. At Ballotpedia, we don’t need to know who you’re voting for or where you live. When you download this app there will be no need to create an account because your information will stay with you on your phone, not be sent to us.
How it works
Ballotpedia's sample ballot tools are powered by digital maps. We pinpoint your address on a map and identify all of its corresponding districts. Our tool then checks to see which elections are happening in those districts and pulls information from our database on all the candidates running in those elections, plus all the measures on the ballot.
