Ballotpedia Celebrates Ten Years Online

On May 30, 2007, Ballotpedia.org went live

Middleton, Wis. - May 30, 2017: From our first article to our quarter-of-a-millionth page, Ballotpedia has been online, supplying readers with high-quality, nonpartisan information for ten years. On May 30, 2007, the address “Ballotpedia.org” went live. Leslie Graves, founder of Ballotpedia, started to coordinate staff on a wiki platform, forming a plan to educate readers about ballot measures. That goal quickly expanded to providing information on federal, state, and local politics and policies, and by 2017, the information contained on Ballotpedia.org would fill over 264 Bibles.

As Ballotpedia’s database continues to grow, thousands of visitors return to Ballotpedia each day. Well over half a billion lifetime page views inspire a staff of over 50 researchers and writers to continue to update and compile information on upcoming elections, state policies, and elected officials.

With over 507,000 elected officials in the United States, Ballotpedia still feels it has a lot of work to do. In its second decade, it will continue to inform Americans about the officials, candidates, offices, and laws that govern every kind of election, and the public policy issues that impact everyone.
