Ballotpedia teams up with Truepic to help verify candidates’ identities

Middleton, Wis. - May 27, 2020: Today, Ballotpedia and Truepic announced their partnership for the 2020 election cycle. Truepic has provided Ballotpedia with a grant allowing the team access to Truepic’s Vision photo verification platform. The Vision platform will be a useful tool to help the Ballotpedia team in confirming the identities of candidates participating in Candidate Connection.

Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection questionnaire allows candidates to provide more information about themselves for their Ballotpedia profile pages and the My Vote Ballotpedia mobile app. This material helps voters go beyond collecting the list of names that will be on their ballots so that they can feel more confident that the candidates they are voting for are the ones that most closely align with their views.

To ensure that the candidates submitting information through Candidate Connection are legitimate, Ballotpedia will give them the option to confirm their identity by providing verified photos of identification via Truepic Vision.

Truepic’s Vision platform leverages advanced computer vision, machine learning, and over 20 verification tests to provide high-trust images and videos for Ballotpedia’s review. Images captured with the Vision platform have verified metadata, are established as unedited, and have been confirmed as originals in real time.

After the Ballotpedia team has reviewed the Truepic images submitted by each candidate, their verified questionnaire responses will be added to the candidate’s profile on Ballotpedia. Voters will then be able to see candidates’ responses when researching their ballots.
