Seven of the 12 seats on the Baltimore County Public Schools school board in Maryland were up for general election on November 6, 2018. A primary election for the District 1, 3, 4, and 7 seats was held on June 26, 2018, as three or more candidates filed to run in those races. This election was the first time the district held board elections. Prior to 2018, every member of the board was appointed by the governor.[1]

Endorsements
The Teachers Association of Baltimore County endorsed District 1 candidate Matt Gresick, District 2 candidate Cheryl Pasteur, District 3 candidate Paul Konka, District 4 candidate Tara Huffman, District 4 candidate Kathleen White, District 5 candidate Peter Beilenson, District 6 candidate Edward Kitlowski, District 7 candidate Eric Washington, and District 7 candidate Rod McMillion.[2] District 1 candidate Matt Gresick also received endorsements from Maryland State Delegate Eric Ebersole, Maryland State Delegate Clarence Lam, and Maryland State Delegate Terri Hill.[3][4] District 3 candidate Paul Konka received an endorsement from the Education Support Professionals of Baltimore County.[5]

About the district
Baltimore County Public Schools is located in Maryland. The district was the third-largest school district in the state in the 2014–2015 school year and served 109,830 students.[6]
Pivot Counties

There are no Pivot Counties in Maryland. Pivot Counties are counties that voted for Barack Obama (D) in 2008 and 2012 and for Donald Trump (R) in 2016. Altogether, the nation had 206 Pivot Counties, with most being concentrated in upper midwestern and northeastern states.
In the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton (D) won Maryland with 60.3 percent of the vote. Donald Trump (R) received 33.9 percent. In presidential elections between 1789 and 2016, Maryland voted Democratic 52 percent of the time and Republican 21 percent of the time. In the five presidential elections between 2000 and 2016, Maryland voted Democratic all five times.[7]
