Massachusetts: Judge George O'Toole of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts has dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed against television personality Barbara Walters.[1] Nancy Shay of Braintree, Massachusetts, had filed the defamation suit in 2011. Shay alleged that Walters had defamed her in her 2008 memoir. Walters wrote about a "Nancy" who used drugs and had a romantic relationship with Walters' adopted daughter. "Nancy" was expelled from boarding school, and Shay alleged that Walters used her "influence and power" to have Shay expelled. Shay also alleged that Walters pressured her into staying silent about the nature of her relationship with Walters' daughter.[2] In dismissing the case, Judge O'Toole said that Shay was over 20 years late in filing a complaint about Walters' alleged involvement in Shay's expulsion from school.[2]
