Campaign themes

2014

Decker's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

Water

  • Excerpt: "Let’s take care of our water needs of today and plan for the future. Without a secure water source at the local level, San Diegans are vulnerable to rising costs and scarcity."

Common Core

  • Excerpt: "Our children are not scientific experiments. They are individuals with many different components and need to be taught in the manner they learn. Common is just what Common Core will make all of our children. Actually it will make them “Common Imbeciles” in the world job market."

Private Property Rights

  • Excerpt: "I am a proud Capitalist. I believe private business and private property is the foundation of all free people. Pride of ownership cannot be substituted. There is not a single person who will take better care of your business or property than yourself. Small business and the entrepreneurial spirit has created untold amounts of wealth, innovative products and jobs."

High Speed Rail

  • Excerpt: "Ca. Judge Michael Kenny, November 2013, ruled that the authority abused its discretion by approving a funding plan that did not comply with the requirements of law. Unfortunately, he did not block spending of federal funds and rescind construction contracts. The project is marching forward today and must be stopped. This is a COSTLY project for a broke state."

Business

  • Excerpt: "I support small businesses and promise to vote against any tax increases. I believe regulations should be reduced or eliminated so more can start their own business. These businesses hire others, provide a tax base for the state and the profit is spread out throughout the community with money going towards rent, housing, groceries, car purchases and support of other businesses. I am a proud capitalist. "
