Barbara Ernsberger
Barbara Jo Behrend Ernsberger ran for seats on the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court in 2009 and 2011.[1]
Education
Ernsberger received her B.A. in history from the University of Pittsburg in 1973 and her J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law in 1976.[2]
Career
Ernsberger is an attorney in private practice.[2]
Elections
2011 election
Ernsberger ran for an open seat on the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court. She was narrowly defeated by Kathryn Boockvar in the Democratic primary on May 17, receiving only 49.8 percent of the vote.[3][4]

Recount ordered
On May 23, Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele called for a recount of votes in the Democratic primary, because the difference in votes was less than one-half of one percent. Under Pennsylvania law, that dictates that an automatic recount occur. Ernsberger could have stopped the recount, but said that Democrats in should find out who actually won. The final tally of the primary had Kathryn Boockvar winning by 2,116 votes.[5][6]
