Barbara Gunther Zambelli is a judge of the Westchester County Court in New York.

Zambelli has served in this position since 1998, following her election. She was re-elected in 2007. She has also served as an Acting Justice of the Westchester County Supreme Court since 2000 and as the Presiding Judge of the Mental Health Court since 2006.[1]

Biography

Zambelli received her B.A. degree from The American University, College of Public Affairs (Washington, D.C.) in 1972. Prior to receiving her law degree, she worked in New York as a field worker for the City of Mount Vernon Commission on Human Rights (1973-1974), as the Director of Contract Coordinators for Westchester County (1974-1976) and as the executive director for the Mount Vernon Commission on Human Rights (1978-1980). She received her J.D. degree from the Pace University School of Law in 1979.[1][2]

Zambelli began her career in 1981 as Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Mount Vernon, NY. She was promoted to Corporation Counsel in 1984. She then served briefly in 1986 as Counsel for the Mount Vernon Urban Renewal Agency before she was appointed associate judge of the Mount Vernon City Court later that year. She was elected a judge of the court in 1987. She worked in that position through 1997, serving as a senior judge for the last eight years (1989 to 1997). In 1998, she joined the Westchester County Court. She was appointed an Acting Supreme Court Justice in 2000 and a Presiding Mental Health Court Judge in 2006.[1]
