Barbara Howe was a judge for the Erie County Surrogate's Court in New York. She joined the court in 2004, following her election and retired in 2017.[1]

Elections

2013

ran for re-election to the Erie County Surrogate's Court. General: She won without opposition in the general election on November 5, 2013.[2][3]

Education

Howe received her B.A. degree from the University of Connecticut, Storrs in 1969. She went on to study at Cornell University, where she received her M.A. degree in 1973 and her Ph.D. in 1976 (both in Sociology). She continued her schooling at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, where she earned her J.D. degree in 1980.[1]

Career

Howe joined the faculty of S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo in 1974. She became a tenured in 1981 and has served as an adjunct clinical professor of law since 2000 and an adjunct associate professor of sociology since 1988. She has also worked for Legal Aid and as a law clerk for Judge Edgar NeMoyer of the New York Court of Claims.

Howe began her judicial career in 1988, when she became an associate judge of the Buffalo City Court. She was then elected to the New York Supreme Court 8th Judicial District, where she served from 1992 through 2003. She joined the Surrogate's Court in 2004.[1][4][5]
