Barbara Panepinto
Barbara Panepinto was a judge of the New York City Civil Court Richmond County. She assumed office in 1997.
Panepinto ran for re-election for judge of the New York City Civil Court Richmond County. She won in the general election on November 8, 2016.
Biography
Panepinto attended St. Joseph's College in 1973 for her bachelor's degree in psychology and history. In 1975 she attended the City University of New York for post-graduate criminal justice studies and in 1976 she received her master's degree at the City University of New York, Richmond College. The next year she received her AAS in nursing at NYC Technical College (NYCCC). She earned a J.D. at Brooklyn School of Law in 1984.[1]
From 1974 to 1977, Panepinto worked for the New York City Family Court, Bureau Mental Health Services and as a mental health worker court liaison. From 1977 to 1983, she worked for the NYC Department of Probation, Family Court Division and as a Probation Officer. From 1984 to 1986, Panepinto was in the service of the NYC Office of the Corporation Counsel, Family Court Division and the assistant corporation counsel. In 1986 she was a judge for the NYS Unified Court System Family Court and a court attorney until 1990.[1]
Elections
2019
Panepinto's seat was on the ballot in 2019 due to the state's constitutional age limit for judges. A new judge was chosen for the seat on November 5, 2019.[2]
2016
New York held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election was held on September 13, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wish to run in this election was July 14, 2016.[3] Incumbent Kim Dollard and incumbent Barbara I. Panepinto were unopposed in the general election for two open seats on the Richmond County section of the New York City Civil Court.

Judges of the New York City Civil Court are each elected to 10-year terms in partisan contested elections, with one exception. Judges of the New York City Housing Court are appointed by the Chief Administrative Judge and serve five-year terms. To serve on this court, a judge must be a state and city resident, at least 18 years old and practice in the state for 10 years. This court has a mandatory retirement age of 70 years old.[4]
