Barbara M. Barrett
Barbara M. Barrett is the United States secretary of the Air Force. She was the 25th person to serve in the position and the fourth female leader of the Air Force.[1] President Donald Trump nominated Barrett for Air Force secretary on May 21, 2019. Trump tweeted, "I am pleased to announce my nomination of Barbara Barrett of Arizona, and former Chairman of the Aerospace Corporation, to be the next Secretary of the Air Force. Biography
Barrett is an attorney, corporate executive, and academic. Specifically, she served as an attorney for Greyhound Corporation from 1976-1980 and general counsel for Southwest Forest Industries.[1] She went on to become the Vice Chairman of U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board, Deputy Director of the Federal Aviation Administration, and CEO of the American Management Association.[1]
After completing her fellowship at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, Barrett served in several public service leadership positions including as a Senior Advisor for U.S. Missions to the United Nations and U.S. Ambassador to Finland.[1]
Barrett earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Public Administration, and Juris Doctor from Arizona State University.[1] She was also awarded six Honorary Doctorate degrees from various universities.[1]
