Barbara "Bobbi" Petrungaro is a judge of the Twelfth Circuit Court (Subcircuit No. 5) in Joliet, Illinois. She was elected by voters in 2010.[1][2] Petrungaro was retained in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Education

Petrungaro received a B.A. from Lewis University in 1988, going on to earn her J.D. from Valparaiso University Law School in 1991.[3]

Career

After law school, Petrungaro worked as a law clerk under U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew P. Rodovich (U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana). She later gained experience as an attorney with law firms Swanson, Martin & Bell in Chicago and Spesia, Ayers & Ardaugh in Joliet before becoming an assistant state's attorney for Will County. in 2001.[3]

In 2005, she was appointed associate judge of the Twelfth Circuit by the Will County Circuit Judges, where she handled cases including traffic, small claims, domestic violence, juvenile, and divorce until being elected Circuit Judge in 2010.[3][1]

Judges of the Illinois Circuit Court stand for retention after their first full term. To be retained, a judge must receive at least 60 percent of the vote.[4][5] Barbara N. Petrungaro was retained in the Illinois Twelfth Circuit Court, Barbara Petrungaro Retention Election with 76.07 percent of the vote.
