Barbara W. Wallace was a circuit court judge for the 21st Circuit Court in Missouri. She joined the court on December 15, 1995, and retired from the bench on January 31, 2017.[1][2]

Wallace earned her undergraduate degree and her J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. Her experience includes work as an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at St. Louis University Law School and service as the president of the Women Lawyers Association and the Lawyers' Association.[1]

Wallace stood for retention and was retained on November 2, 2010, receiving 63.2 percent of the vote.[5]

Judicial selection method

The judges of the Missouri Circuit Courts in Clay, Greene, Jackson, Platte, and St. Louis counties and the city of St. Louis are appointed by the governor with the help of a judicial selection commission.[6]

The chief judge of each court is elected by the circuit and associate judges from among the sitting circuit judges.[7]

Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must be:

  • a U.S. citizen for at least 10 years;
  • a qualified state voter for at least three years;
  • a resident of the circuit for at least one year;
  • licensed to practice law in the state; and
  • at least 30 years old.[7]
