An effort in Levelland, Texas, to recall Mayor Barbra Pinner was initiated in July 2020.[1] Recall organizers failed to submit enough signatures to put the recall election on the ballot.[2]
Recall supporters
The recall effort was organized by Levelland residents Kimberley Young, Manuel Mendez Jr., and Demetra Young in response to a Facebook post made by Pinner on June 23, 2020.[3] Petitions read, "Mrs. Pinner has shared and posted derogatory and disparaging posts on her personal social media account towards Black people. I feel that Mrs. Pinner is not able to continue working and representing the City of Levelland as Mayor because she has offended many of the constituents that voted for her."[1]
Recall opponents
Pinner apologized for the Facebook post, saying, "This morning I shared a post written by an older black gentleman that I thought was very well written but apparently several people have taken offense and now think I am racist. I am not a racist in any way, shape or form! I’m very sorry if offended ANY one. That was not my intent."<ref name=post>/
