Barry's Background

Safety, Infrastructure and Education are keys to a great community and family. These 3 foundations are at the core of the Curtis family with 3 generations in law enforcement serving their community. His Grandfather served in law enforcement in the Dallas Police Department, his father served 20 years in the United Stated Military then 18 years in law enforcement. Barry's Mom was an educator serving as a schoolteacher including 16 years in Houston ISD.

Early History

Barry Curtis has lived or worked in District J since 1977. He was born on an Air Force Base and later attended and graduated from Sharpstown High School located in District J. District J is where Barry and his wife of 28 years have raised their 3 kids as they all now attend college. While learning at University of Houston Barry worked in Westwood Mall at Sears unloading Semi-Trucks.

H.P.D

H.P.D Retirement to Serve District J

Barry retired from HPD after nearly 30 consistent years of dedication in law enforcement with the Houston Police Department to focus on his community and serve in another way. Barry and his family have lived or worked and enjoyed countless dinners in District J since 1977. Now he wants to earn the opportunity to continue to make District J the most diverse area of Houston and the safest District within The Houston City Council. Currently, there are 16 members, 11 elected from council districts and 5 at-large members. By making District J safe, Barry shares that "Security helps bring prosperity as businesses want to move into safe communities like District J." Vote Barry Curtis on November 5, 2019 or earlier for District J.
  • Commonsense approach to flooding - making sure the drainage piece that you are being charged are used to widen the bayous and replace broken drainage pipes.
  • Prevent and suppress crime
  • Bring values and integrity to City Hall
It is municipal government which is a basic foundation of civilization after the family structure. Many policies that go to state and national levels of government start out in our municipal government first.
High integrity, good morals, good communicator, and a heart that cares for all people.
Good listener, good communicator, and strong ties in the community.
Balance and maintain the city budget. Listen to the needs of the people in the community and find solutions to meet those needs and address any problems they have.
I would like to make district J the safest district in the entire city, the most prosperous District, and leave the office better than it was when I came in. I would like district J to set the bar for other districts in the city.
