In what was considered to be an important case involving free speech on social networking sites, Judge Garber allowed a lawsuit filed by a former Florida high school student, Katherine Evans, to proceed on February 12, 2010. The judge ruled that a Facebook group page which the student used to air complaints on a former teacher is considered free speech because the comments, according to the judge's ruling, were made off-campus and had no implications to threaten the teacher.[3] The case was settled with Evans receiving $15,000 to cover legal fees.[4]
