Bart Altman is a judge for the Glynn County State Court in Georgia. He was elected to this position in August of 2012 to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Orion L. Douglass. Altman won re-election in the nonpartisan general election on May 24, 2016.[1]
Biography
Altman received his undergraduate degree in business from Valdosta State University in 1993 and his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School in Atlanta in 1996.[2]
Altman worked in the following positions prior to being elected to the state court:[2]
- 2000-2012: Attorney in private practice
- 1998-2000: Assistant Public Defender, Glynn County, Georgia
- 1997-1998: Prosecutor, Camden County, Georgia
- 1996-1997: Attorney in private practice, Atlanta, Georgia
Elections
2016
Georgia held elections for local judicial offices—some of which are partisan, others of which are nonpartisan—in 2016. On May 24, 2016, regions across the state held primaries for the partisan races and general elections for the nonpartisan races. Runoff races for both the partisan primaries and the nonpartisan general elections were held on July 26, 2016. The general election for partisan races took place on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was March 11, 2016.[3]

Judges of the Georgia State Courts are elected to four-year terms.[4] The elections for this court are nonpartisan, contested elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be a state resident for at least three years, a county resident, admitted to practice law for at least seven years, and at least 25 years of age.[5]
