Two of seven seats on the Bastrop Independent School District board of trustees in Texas were up for at-large general election on May 6, 2017. In Place 3, incumbent Billy Moore defeated challenger Tommy Hazleton. Incumbent Molly McClure was the sole candidate to file in the race for Place 4. Due to lack of opposition the election was canceled, and McClure was automatically re-elected.[1][2][3]

The Bastrop board of trustees consists of seven members elected at large to three-year terms. While candidates run for specifically named seats, each candidate represents the entire district rather than a particular geographic area.[4] Two seats were up for general election in May 2016, and two seats were up for general election on May 6, 2017.

School board candidates had to submit paperwork with the school district secretary by February 17, 2017. Each candidate had to be at least 18 years old, a registered voter, a resident of the state for at least 12 months, and a resident of the district for at least six months.
