This measure sought to increase the current non residential levy by a rate of $15.79 per $1,000 of assessed value, making the total $18, for a further two years in order to continue to pay for operational costs of the schools in the district.[2]

The question on the ballot:
| Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Beaver Island Community School, Charlevoix County, Michigan, be increased by 15.7908 mills ($15.7908 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 2 years, 2012 and 2013, to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approve and levied in 2012 is approximately $1,450,000 (this is a renewal of millage which expired with the 2011 tax levy)?[3] |
